5 simple rules while riding a bicycle at night.
>> Feb 4, 2010
1. Be sure your bike has front, rear, side rim, and wheel and pedal reflectors. These are now required on all new bicycles, for older bikes reflective tape may be used. Use front and rear lights to help make you more noticeable to cars and strap small battery-operated lamps to your legs such as a simple flashlight.
2. Wear light colored clothing, never wear black. Always wear a reflective vest and reflective bands on arms and legs.
3. Always wear a good helmet with a rigid but crushable interior material which may help absorb the force of an impact.
Apply reflective tape to your helmet for more visibility.
4. Never allow children to ride a night.
5. Avoid riding on dark, narrow roadways where the posted speed is more than 35mph.
